Essence Burn is a rune effect in Exploding Palm, a Spirit-spending Monk skill.
This rune effect changes the bleeding to burning, a flame that can spread to nearby enemies.

This skill and all of its rune effects underwent major changes shortly before release, changing from a combo style spirit-generator to a spirit-spender with a variety of effect.

Prior to the February 2012 skill and rune system overview this effect was provided by the Alabaster Rune runestone effect, which granted the following effect:

Essence Burn |
[e] The third strike causes the target to burn for 78% weapon damage as Fire damage every second for 3 seconds. If the target dies while burning it explodes causing all nearby enemies to burn for 39% weapon damage as Fire damage for 2 seconds. This effect can chain repeatedly. |
